Rescued at 9 weeks old, she claimed me immediately. Jasper was a bit accident-prone, in her life she had over 100 stitches and staples. Lumps off, both knees reconstructed, cut paws and an emergency surgery on NYEve!

Jasper loved swimming for the stick with her “sister” Ayla at the beach, her favourite thing was to bellyflop! A soulful dog who knew my every mood, my constant companion through trauma and a thoroughly entertaining dog with a silly character.

Jasper succumbed to Geriatric Vestibular Syndrome and went to join her 16 other house buddies after a life filled with fun, love and great food.

This is a very common question and something many people agonise over. Initially a common reaction after losing your pet may be 'I never want to have another pet', and this is often because you could never imagine having to go through this grief again especially when it is so raw. You need to take some time to process the loss of your pet and to get to a place where you are thinking of him/her with a smile and not just sadness and grief.

How you go about moving forward and trying to get your usual life back on track after experiencing the deep loss and pain of losing your beautiful companion is an intensely personal experience and should never be about other peoples expectations about how you should feel at a specified time. It is a time to take it easy on yourelf. You should also understand that moving forward does not mean you should forget about your pet it is more about trying to achieve your usual living and enjoying your life at the same time as missing your pet.

Methods and strategies to help you cope when your pet has passed.

1.) The denial process

Almost always the very beginning of the grieving process is denial that it has happened. This is also the time you may need to make some (often urgent) decisions about after care. Now people living in Bunbury, Capel, Busselton, Dunsborough, Yallingup, Margaret River and Augusta can rest easy that their pet does not have to travel to Perth for cremation and that their pet can be back at home with them in a short time. If you feel your pets time is coming, it is possible to have all of the aftercare arrangements in place, this can significantly reduce the stress when it does happen.

If you are like my family and I, obsessed with pets since we can remember, you will recall the joy of welcoming a new pet (especially a baby pet) into the family.

They immediately change your world; their antics hold you enthralled; their cuddles and love are endless. It suddenly hits you that you are completely and utterly in love with this adorable creature.

Sharyn has been a vet for almost 20 years and Tim always had the idea to offer a caring compassionate service in this unique field.
